Strategic Teaching
Routines
Establishing clear routines at the start of the
school year are critical for student success.
The following Webquest from Internet for Classrooms
provides both teachers and administrators with a
wealth of resources to make the start of the school
year a great UDL beginning.
1.
Think about
how you currently share your big ideas, news and
information and organize your classroom materials.
Reflect in your Strategic Journal.
2.
Click on
the link to
Classroom
Organization.
3. Under the Management tab
click on Middle and High School.
4.
Select one of the articles of
interest.

your classroom.
5. Next click on Setting Up Your Classroom under
the Physical Environment heading then click on the
article
The Ultimate Organized
Classroom
.

Stations/Centers titled
Grades 6-12.

your classroom.
7. Finally,
write in your journal 2-3 strategies you'll take
away
from this activity.
8.
Share it
with your table.
A UDL classroom
has consistent, clear routines that are established
at the beginning of the course.
Introducing and
displaying big ideas for the course, unit, and
lesson in graphic organizers has been shown to
increase student performance by 15-30% (kucl.org,
2007).
Remember:
Establish routines for:
- Displaying Big Ideas
- Sharing Information
- Organizing materials
These routines help students keep organized,
focused and responsible for their
learning.
